A stage of life

“5 soldiers – The Body is the Frontline” is a piece of dance theatre funded by the Armed Forces Covenant showing the experience of being a soldier.
The performance has been staged at 2 theatres and 3 military bases in Scotland by the Rosie Kay Dance Group. It demonstrates the human side of what goes into the making of a soldier, all the way from training to close combat.
Thanks to the involvement of military personnel, audiences were treated to a moving and thought provoking behind the scenes look at the life of a soldier.
The work demonstrated that a soldier has all the same emotions as any human being, but often heightened and in a much tougher setting than most of us can ever know.
The production is just a small part of a larger community outreach program. While on tour, in each location, the dancers engaged with communities by giving talks and training local dance leaders. These dance leaders then taught community groups, children on bases and even regimental sergeant majors.
5 Soldiers was a great opportunity to bring together people from all walks of life in a friendly and inviting environment.
“We really had a proper collaboration between the company and the army. It was just incredible!” said Rosie Kay.
