Defence Committee inquiry into the Covenant

The House of Commons Defence Select Committee is currently holding an inquiry into the Armed Forces Covenant.

To inform the inquiry, the Committee has opened a short call for written evidence to find out more about the experiences of the Covenant ahead of the next Armed Forces Bill. This opened on Friday 13 December 2024 and closes on Friday 24 January 2025. They are particularly interested in hearing from individuals (particularly service personnel) and organisations with links to multiple service personnel and veterans.

The Secretary of State has granted special dispensation for Service Personnel to provide evidence to the Committee’s inquiry. The MOD is content for serving personnel and civil servants to submit written evidence to the inquiry on the understanding that:

  • it is in a personal capacity;
  • in line with long-standing principles as Crown Servants, submissions from those employed by the MOD only comment on personal experiences and not matters of policy; and,
  • those submitting evidence do not reveal private information about other people.
