St. Modwen signs Armed Forces Covenant
January 31, 2020
St. Modwen has signed the Armed Forces Covenant, a commitment to supporting those who serve, or have served in the military, and their families.
The property developer has created a bespoke Armed Forces career pathway, providing employment opportunities and training courses to inspire members of the Armed Forces community to join the housebuilding and construction sectors. It has also pledged to create enhanced leave policies to support deployment, reservists and services’ families.
St. Modwen has recruited an internal network of Armed Forces ambassadors – made up of existing employees – that will provide support to new recruits, and represent the business at careers fayres and events that actively support service personnel and their families.
The developer has also partnered with Burton and South Derbyshire College to deliver fully funded bricklaying courses for the Armed Forces community and job opportunities with its dedicated housebuilding business, St. Modwen Homes.
Jane Saint, Group HR Director at St. Modwen, said:
“I’m absolutely delighted that St. Modwen has signed the Armed Forces Covenant and that we’re able to provide training and employment to those who have selflessly contributed through service.
“As we work to attract a more diverse workforce into the housebuilding sector, and seek to address the ever-growing skills gap within construction, we want to provide every opportunity for talented military personnel to bring their skills and experience into a rewarding career within a supportive organisation like St. Modwen.”
Since signing the Covenant, St. Modwen has achieved the Bronze Award in the Defence Employer Recognition Scheme (ERS), recognising it as a Forces-friendly employer, committed to employing reservists, Armed Forces veterans, cadet instructors and military spouses/partners. It is also seeking to attain the ERS Silver Award in 2020, further strengthening its commitment to the Forces.
