War Widow(er)s Recognition Payment Scheme – update

November 19, 2024

The War Widow(er)s Recognition Payment Scheme was launched on the 16 October 2023. It provides a payment to recognise widow(er)s of service personnel who forfeited their Service-attributable pension prior to 2015 and have not had this pension restored.

It is a payment of £87,500 which was specifically designed to focus on those who were bereaved due to Service and who are not currently receiving any monetary recognition.

This recognition payment is made under a key principle of the Armed Forces Covenant, that allows for special provision when justified for those who have sacrificed the most, such as the bereaved and injured.

The scheme is due to close on 15 October 2025 and we would continue to welcome and encourage applications from anyone who believes they maybe eligible for this one-off payment.

An overview of the scheme, further information and the claim form can be found at: War Widow(er)s Recognition Payment
